Mortgage Interest Rates Rise Above 5%

For the first time since October, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate rised above 5 percent last week. Experts predict the rate will continue to inch up over the next few weeks.

Currently, a prospective buyer who takes out a 30-year mortgage loan can expect to pay approximately $50 more per month (based on purchasing a $170,000 home with a 20 percent down payment) compared to October, when rates stood at 4.2 percent.

Despite the jump in rates, relatively low home prices indicate that affordability will continue to remain high for some time.

FHA PMI to increase in April 2011!

Just FYI this is VERY IMPORTANT> Effective on all FHA case numbers ordered 04/03/2011 forward the new mortgage insurance premium monthly will be increased from .90 to .115. This is a GREAT reason to get moving on buying a new home or making sure your house if priced correctly if you are a homeseller and be ready to go prior to 04/03/2011. The loan does not have to be closed prior to this date but the appraisal needs to be ordered prior to this date so we can get an FHA case number assigned.
